Representing Our Mission
2024 Day of Advocacy
Best Practices for Community Events
At the Pennsylvania Pregnancy Wellness Collaborative (PPWC), we believe that every life matters, including women navigating pregnancy, the children they carry, and even those who may hold different beliefs. When we attend public events or other gatherings, our presence reflects our values: compassion, dignity, and truth. Whether you're joining a walk, participating in a community gathering, or standing in support of women and families, we encourage you to do so in a way that is welcoming, peaceful, and purpose-driven.

PPWC'S Approach
Some public participants may take a confrontational or aggressive approach. That is not our
way. We ask all who stand alongside PPWC to model kindness, patience, and empathy. Our goal
is to invite meaningful conversations and build connections, not create division.

What We Encourage
Practices That Reflect Our Values
Quiet prayer, song, or a calm, respectful presence
A gentle and prayerful presence communicates peace and compassion without words. This approach creates space for openness and genuine dialogue.
Uplifting signs and messages that affirm life and support women
Positive, hope-filled messages reflect our commitment to valuing both women and their children. They invite others to engage without defensiveness or fear.
Sharing resources about pregnancy medical and resource centers
Providing practical information gives women tangible options for support and care. This empowers them to make informed choices rooted in love and dignity.
Respect for public spaces and personal dignity
Honoring boundaries, property, and people demonstrates integrity in our mission. Respect builds credibility and fosters trust in the community.
Actions That Create Division
What We Discourage
Shouting, confrontation, or name-calling
Aggressive behavior creates hostility and shuts down meaningful conversation. It undermines the compassionate spirit we seek to embody.
Inflammatory signs or aggressive messaging
Harsh or graphic messaging often alienates rather than invites. Our mission is best served by words that uplift, not divide.
Blocking access to buildings or impeding others’ movement
Obstructing paths or entrances causes frustration and conflict. We aim to be a presence of peace, never a barrier.
Filming others without permission or violating boundaries
Recording without consent can feel invasive and disrespectful. Protecting the dignity and privacy of all people is central to our witness.

Guidelines for a
Life Affirming Presence
Reflect on your purpose
Before attending an event, ask yourself why you're participating. Let compassion, hope, and support guide your presence. You’re not there to argue; you’re there to uplift.
Be respectful in dress and demeanor
You are representing more than yourself. Choose attire and messaging that are positive and approachable, and behave in a way that draws others in, not drives them away.
Listen first; Speak gently
If someone engages you in discussion, listen with empathy. Respond calmly and respectfully, focusing on care, love, and support, not judgment.
Share help and resources
Carry brochures or cards that direct people to nearby PMCs and PRCs for confidential support services. Providing real help makes a lasting impact.
Respect community guidelines
Follow local laws and any instructions from event staff or public officials. Do not block sidewalks or entrances. A peaceful presence includes being responsible and lawful.
Respect community guidelines
Consider attending with a church group, youth organization, or local pregnancy center. A united, peaceful presence communicates strength, compassion, and clarity of purpose.
Care for the space around you
Take any materials with you when you leave and keep the area clean. Leave each space better than you found it, as a reflection of our care for community and environment.
Our Message is One of Hope
PPWC is here to support, not shame. We believe that when women are informed, empowered,
and surrounded by love, they are more equipped to choose life. Our public presence should
reflect that belief. This is not a battle; it is an invitation to build a better, more compassionate community.
