"I kept it for a month." I'm not okay.

A client came to our center pregnant and undecided about what she should do. She was pregnant several months prior and took the abortion pill. As we were discussing the process of the pill—as she was considering taking it for this pregnancy--I noticed she reacted when I shared there was a risk of seeing identifiable parts. I asked her if she saw anything when she took the pill a few months ago and she said "yes" very quickly. I asked her if anyone had told her that was a possibility, and she said no and began crying. She said "Not even Planned Parenthood told me. Why wouldn't they tell me?" When she completed her forms, she checked having flashbacks as a post-abortion effect. I asked her about that, and she began crying again and said she sees it everywhere. Then she said, "I kept it for a month." I asked her what she did with it, and she said she wrapped the baby up and put it in a box. She said "I just didn't know what else to do with it. I didn't want to throw my child away". When she saw it, she said she "screamed at the top of her lungs".
