A client shared she took the abortion pill when she was 7 weeks pregnant. She expressed getting it from an abortion clinic in Pittsburgh, but didn't say which one. When I asked her what her experience was like physically and mentally she said having the abortion at home was overwhelming. She thought it was going to feel like a menstrual period, however she shared that it was much worse. She experienced a lot of nausea, diarrhea, physical cramping and pain, and had bleeding for about 2 weeks. She felt that she didn't know that she was going to experience all of that. Afterwards she was given a 1-800 number to call if she had any complications or needed to be followed up with. She tried calling but they let her know she was okay and follow up in person was not necessary. When asked about what she did after the abortion took place she said that she was very scared and did not know what to do. She wasn't sure if she should throw it away or flush it or bury it, but she decided to just flush. The only person she was able to contact afterwards was through the 1-800 number. When I asked her what she was she could have known prior to her experience she said I wish that someone could have told me that I could have done it, that I could have had my baby, or I wish someone would have told me more about adoption.
