"They don't really tell you anything." I'm not okay.

At a recent appointment, a client shared the details of her past abortion. She received the abortion pill from the local Planned Parenthood when she was 9 weeks and 5 days pregnant. I asked her what the experience was like for her physically and she said "I took it and went to sleep. When I woke up there was blood everywhere." She said she ran over to the toilet and felt something pass. I asked her if she saw any identifiable parts and she said she did. She said "I couldn't tell if it was an arm or a leg but I definitely saw parts". I asked her if the local abortion clinic she went to had informed her that she might see that. She said she couldn't remember but honestly "they don't really tell you anything". She again referenced what she saw and said "there was definitely limbs" in the toilet. She began feeling faint, so her partner had to call her an ambulance which took her to the ER. She said she didn't know if she was just stressed, but her heartrate was extremely high. I asked her if she had any follow-up care and she said that she found herself pregnant a few months later so she went to a doctor. She said "so I guess that was my follow up". After her abortion experience she shared that she would never do it again and she "did not realize how difficult the process would be".
